Stucco Systems & Finish Options
Choose the Right Stucco System
-
Stucco Types: All That You Need to Know from Types to Paint
Stucco systems vary in appearance, insulation value, flexibility, and maintenance. The best choice depends on the existing wall, building design, desired finish, and budget.
We inspect your property, explain the practical options, and recommend a system suited to Ottawa’s climate.
Main Stucco Systems
The two main categories are traditional cement stucco and EIFS or acrylic finish systems.

Traditional Stucco
-
Synthetic Stucco
Traditional Stucco
Traditional stucco is a cement-based exterior system applied over properly prepared lath and base coats. It provides a durable, impact-resistant finish with several texture options.
Correct preparation, flashing, reinforcement, control joints, and curing are essential for a long-lasting installation.
EIFS & Acrylic Finishes
EIFS combines exterior insulation with reinforced base coat, fiberglass mesh, and an acrylic finish. Acrylic finishes are flexible, available in many colours, and commonly used on both EIFS and suitable base-coat systems.
A complete EIFS installation requires the correct insulation, adhesives or fasteners, reinforced mesh, base coat, details, and finish coat according to the selected system.
Lath & Reinforcement
Lath and reinforcement help support cement-based stucco and control cracking. The correct product and installation method depend on the wall assembly and project specifications.
Three-Coat Stucco Lath
Three-coat stucco lath is designed for traditional cement stucco assemblies and must be installed with the required overlaps, fasteners, clearances, and accessories.
Furred lath creates space for the base coat to fully embed around the reinforcement.
One-Coat Stucco Lath
One-coat lath is used only where an approved one-coat system and wall assembly call for it.
High-Rib Lath
High-rib lath provides added stiffness for specific plaster and soffit applications.
Expanded Metal Lath
Expanded metal lath is commonly used for stucco, transitions, and repair areas when specified for the assembly.
Coatings Made for Stucco
Stucco should be coated with products designed for masonry and compatible with the existing system.

Elastomeric

Masonry
-
Acrylic
Breathability, adhesion, water resistance, and flexibility must be considered before choosing a coating. We assess the surface and recommend a compatible product.
Popular Stucco Textures
Texture changes the character of the exterior. Popular choices include:
-
Float or sand
-
Dash
-
Lace and skip
-
